Memories of the Washington State International Kite Festival August 1989

Sorry about the quality of all photos. Over the years they were video taped then transferred to disc then frame shots were downloaded to file by someone (me) that did not have a clue as to what they were doing. The dates on photos is when I video taped them!

Dad (RIP) got interviewed by NPR !

Goal was One Million kites in the air at once, not quite ! only 850,000

confirmed (by estimate) on 28 miles of beach on the

Long Beach Peninsula.

1989 World Record ~largest kite ever flown. Made by folks from Holland. A backhoe tethered it with 300 volunteer guideline handlers

When it crashed all ya could see were butts & elbows scampering out of the way, I have never laughed so hard!

I mean how much damage can a 100 pound (or so) mass of rip stop sail cloth do❔
